The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) published a report on Canada’s housing supply shortages and affordability crisis.<\/p>\n

A few takeaways from this CMHC report<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“To restore affordability, we need 3.5 million\u00a0additional housing units beyond current projections!” (5.8 million new homes by 2030)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“Governments help by subsidizing housing costs for low-income\u00a0Canadians. But achieving housing affordability for everyone in\u00a0Canada will be done with increasing supply in the rental and
\nhomeownership market, and having this supply respond more\u00a0quickly to greater demand.\u00a0Developers must become more productive and make full use\u00a0of land holdings to build more housing while governments\u00a0must make regulatory systems faster and more efficient.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“We need to take drastic measures now to produce more\u00a0housing\u2014not more reports.” (as read in a report \ud83e\udd23)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“…two-thirds of the supply gap is found in Ontario and British Columbia”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“There are significant barriers to achieving this quantity of supply.\u00a0Currently, skills shortages and supply-chain challenges are\u00a0pushing up construction costs\u2014meaning it can take more
\ntime to build.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
